(New numbers change little other than voter turn-out)…
The latest unofficial results released by the local Elections Department Thursday boost the voter turn-out, but change little else.
With the extra 3,000 votes counted from the June 3 elections, voter turn-out now stands at 31.46%, up from the 24% reported election night. Registrar of Voters Dolores Provencio says provisional ballots still have to be sorted and counted before the election numbers are final. Those numbers are expected some time next week. The canvassing process is also underway at the elections department. That process can be viewed by the public. They should contact the elections department for hours and more information. The canvassing must be done within 28 days of the actual election. The results are then certified by the County and sent off to the State. Races that could change following the provisional ballot count would be the third seat for Calexico City Council. Only 14 votes separate Daniel Romero and Lewis Pacheco. In the race for Westmorland City Council, only 13 votes separate second place Stanley Brummet and Larry Ritchie. There are two vacancies on the Westmorland city Council. In the race for Supervisor, second District, Jack Terrazas continues to hold an 83-vote lead over Harold Carter. The race for Supervisor District 3 got closer, but a run-off is inevitable between Michael Kelley and Geoff Dale. The same holds true for Stella Mendoza and Michael Cox in the race for Imperial Irrigation District Division 4. The run-offs will be held in November. |
