Nine year old dies over the weekend

(A trip to the mountains turned tragic over the weekend)…A group of 27 kids between the ages of 9-16 and two adult chaperones made the trip. The group, from Tijuana and Rosarito Beach traveled to Picacho Canyon on the Mexicali side of La Rumorsa. The outing turned tragic when the group was caught up in the heat and high humidity. The kids became dehydrated. One of the adults was forced to climb out of the Canyon for Cell-phone reception to call for help. By the time rescuers arrived, a 9 year old was dead, seven seriously dehydrated and the rest suffering from dehydration. The seriously ill were either flown out of the Canyon by helicopter or transported to Mexicali’s General Hospital in a military Hummer. Red Cross Ambulances and paramedics assisted the rest.
