(Imperial Irrigation District has not taken a position on proposed water bond)…Kevin Kelley, a spokesperson with the Imperial Irrigation District, Said Thursday the IID has not yet taken a position on the proposed bond measure.

The Governor’s office and Senator Diane Feinstein are proposing the $9.3 billion water bond plan for the November ballot. Kelley said since the plan has not yet qualified for the November ballot, the IID has not taken an official position. He said, however, the District does support the idea behind the plan. If approved, the bond funds would improve the State’s deteriorating water delivery system in the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta. Kelley said the IID has always supported improving the deteriorating delivery system. He said that would relieve pressure from the IID. San Diego County Water officials are supporting the plan, saying it is a first step toward an overhaul of California’s aging water-supply system. Environmentalists are opposing the plan, because it funds the construction of more dams. Kelley said the plan is being presented to legislators to determine support before it qualifies for the November ballot.
