(Calexico School Board to hold special meeting on Monday)…..The regular session for the School Board is scheduled for Thursday.

On Monday, however, the Board is scheduled to discuss more possible lay-offs. On the agenda will be teacher-aid positions, as well as library clerks and some tech positions. It has been speculated that up to 19-teacher aid positions are being eyed for lay-off. The Board is also expected to clarify David Alvarez’s future with the District. Alvarez recently announced his retirement as Superintendent. His contract with the District runs out June 30. Some are saying Alvarez is being retained as a consultant, possibly for up to 3 months following his retirement. Others are saying Alvarez will remain as an advisor to recently named interim superintendent David Groesbeck on some issues started under Alvarez’s tenure. The California School Employees Association is expected to ask for the clarification. The Union says they feel Groesbeck can execute the job of Superintendent without any help. Friday the C S E A members will vote on the ratification of a new contract. The vote will be held at the Cesar Chavez Elementary School Cafeteria at 4:30 in the afternoon. Among the benefits offered in the new contract; Cesar Chavez’s Birthday will be added as a holiday for classified employees. Also, elementary attendance clerk’s hours will be increased from the current 3 to 6. Copies of the tentative contract are available at all school sites, and the agreement will be posted at the voting site.
