| U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the downtown Calexio port of entry intercepted four narcotic smuggling attempts over a three day period preventing over $1.7 million worth of cocaine and methamphetemine from enteering the United States. The first seizure of the four occurred Friday , August 15 when a 2006 Chevy HHR with California plates was referred to the secondary examination area after the primary officer noted inconsistencies with the drivers responses. After further inspection four packages of methamphetemines were discovered in an electrical compartment. The driver , a 28-year old U.S. citizen from Calexico was arrested and booked at Imperial County Jail. On Saturday morning at about 10:00 a 33-year old Mexican citizen driving a 1999 Nissan Frontier was referred to secondary inspection after a canine alerted to the truck during a pre-primary enforcement operation. After extensive examination 26 packages of narcotics were found concealed in the rocker panels of the truck. The driver , a Mexicali resident , was arrested. At 1:00 that afternoon a 2007 Honda Ridgeline with Baja California plates was found to contain 103 pounds of cocaine concealed in a specially-built compartment in the rear seat area. The driver , a 46-year old Mexicali man , was arrested. The most recent seizure occurred Tuesday , August 19 , when a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu with Baja California plates was referrred to secondary inspection after a canine aleerted to the car in a pre-primary inspection operation. 63 pounds of cocaine were found underneath the backseat of the vehicle. The driver , a 44-year old Mexicali man was arrested. |
