(Suspected drug smuggler enters plea)…Officials say 42-year-old Antonio Morales Barrios entered the guilty plea in Federal Court Friday. Sentencing was scheduled for September 2. The Mexican National reportedly transported more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana from a house on Second Street in Calexico to a nearby swap meet, where he transferred the load to 39-year-old Jesus Aguila Agundez. The 39 year old was charged to five years in prison last August. Morales Barrios was reportedly in charge of the Second Street house in 2006 when a 400-foot tunnel was located. The tunnel, 20 feet down, traveled from the Calexico house to one in Mexicali. The tunnel was very sophisticated, with lighting, ventilation and a water pump system. Morales Barrios faces a sentence of 5 to 40 years in prison. |
