(A Comandante with the AFI in Mexicali is gunned down)….Officials say Mexico’s special Organized Crime Unit has arrived in Mexicali to investigate Tuesday’s ambush killing of Jorge Rodriguez Mondo, a commander with Mexicali’s Federal Agency of Investigations,

and a passenger in his vehicle, 34-year-old Jorge David Carreno Avilez. According to reports, two vehicles entered the parking lot of the Wal Mart Super center in Mexicali at around 9:00 Tuesday night, surrounded a pick-up and opened fire. When it was over Mondo had received 17 shots, mostly to the head, and Avilez was reportedly shot 20 times. Very little official information is being released. There are reports, however, that the ambush is drug related. Mexican news reports are that the Comandante may have been involved with drug traffickers. Other reports are that the assassination is revenge resulting from a recent drug trafficking investigation. Reports in Mexicali are that Carreno Avilez and Mondo were related and may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
