Massive drill goes off smoothly

(Imperial County participates in Golden Guardian)….It was the largest disaster drill ever held. Participants included counties throughout the State. Locally, the drill included a response to a massive 7.8 earthquake that was reported at 10:00 Thursday morning and included an aftershock at around 3:00 in the afternoon. The drill included simulated injuries, a riot and other realistic reactions to a possible disaster. The Naval Air Facility, El Centro responded to a simulated train derailment that included a chemical spill. Local organizers said they were pleased with the responses to the simulated events.
