Malathion spilled at Von's

(Shopping Market parking lot closed for the night)….El Centro Fire closed the Von’s parking lot because of a chemical spill. Fire officials say Malathion spilled from the back of a vehicle driving through the parking lot Wednesday afternoon. The pesticide dripped the entire length of the lot in front of the market. Von’s employees covered the spill with cat litter to keep down the smell. Fire officials said the spill was not considered a serious hazard, but they closed off the area to minimize contact. No injuries were reported from the incident. The fire department said at around 7:00 pm they would keep the Parking lot closed off for about 12 hours.
