Lockdown At Centinela

Centinela State Prison is currently under institutional lockdown following a serious staff assault late Tuesday afternoon. The assaults on two correctional officers occurred at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. The officers were assaulted by a an estimated 18 Hispanic prisoners in the Facility D gym. Both correctional officers were transported to a local hospital and treated and released. Their injuries were described as mostly bumps, bruises and abrasions.The incident is under investigation but so far they have not determined a reason for the assaults. The warden and executive staff of the facility are meeting today with Centinela staff and briefing them on the incident and what to expect as the investigation continues.
