(Pursued vehicle winds up in a field)….The California Highway Patrol investigated the incident.

 The CHP says County Sheriff’s deputies were pursuing a Chevy Malibu early Sunday morning. The pursuit was on East Avenue. As the Malibu approached Bowles Road at a high rate of speed. The Highway Patrol says the driver of the Malibu failed to notice the tee-intersection with Bowles Road. The Malibu continued southbound into and across the intersection, became airborne and traveled off the south edge of Bowles. The vehicle landed in the dirt drainage ditch south of Bowles. The 15-year-old driver fled the scene, but later turned himself in and was arrested for felony drunk driving. A passenger in the Malibu, 24-year-old David Verdugo of Brawley suffered a fractured spine and minor cuts. Another passenger, 20-year-old Christopher Arvizu Jr. from Calipatria suffered a broken nose and heavy bruising to the face. A 23-year-old passenger, Lonnie Lovato from cal patria suffered cuts to his hands and face. All were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital for treatment. The 15 year old, also a Calipat resident, suffered minor cuts and abrasions, but was not transported to a hospital.
