(A water shortage could be declared)….The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors received a report on this year’s inadvertent water over-run at their Tuesday meeting. The over-run has been decreasing, but recently it has been reported above 100,000 acre-feet. The Board set in motion the process for a possible Declaration of a Supply Demand Imbalance for 2009. IID spokesperson Kevin Kelley said if the SDI is declared it would kick in a system of apportionment, which is a form of water rationing. Mike King, Water Department Manager, will submit a report to the Board at the August 19 meeting. That report will include a recommendation for the possible Declaration of a Supply Demand Imbalance for the next year. |
