(Big Rigs stopped at Ocotillo)…Strong, gusty winds forced the closure of Interstate 8 to high profile vehicles Monday morning.

The California Highway Patrol notified K X O news at 5:15 Monday morning that it was just too windy to allow high profile vehicle cross the mountain passes. They said the Interstate was closed to the large vehicles from Ocotillo to Willows Road, near Alpine in San Diego County. The Eastbound lanes were closed to high profile vehicles from Willow Road to Ocotillo. The C H P considers Big Rigs, R.V.’s, Campers and such as high profile vehicles. The wind gusts were reported at 40 to 50 miles per hour, with some gusts up to 65 miles per hour. At 3:30 in the morning a semi was toppled by the wind just west of the Buckman Springs rest area. No injuries were reported in that incident. At just after 6:00 am a white van overturned east of Buckman Springs road. Not a lot of information has been released on that incident. The Border Patrol was called in to assist in the investigation.
