(Imperial Irrigation District Board to discuss Ormat water)…The water is for the new Ormat geothermal plant north of Brawley. The 49.9-megawatt plant will need 6,800 acre feet of water per year. The District has reached a 20 year agreement with Ormat, in which the amount of water is scaled down by 20 percent by year 11, and down 40 percent by year 15. Ormat will pay the industrial rate for the water, plus contribute $1.5 million toward the District’s upcoming integrated water resources management plan. The agreement was presented to the Board on September 23. No action was taken, mainly because there not a full Board at that time. Director Mike Abatti has been very critical of the proposed agreement. He will have a chance to include his input at the Tuesday meeting. The Directors bi-monthly meeting is open to the public at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon. |
