El Centro, Ca. - The Imperial Irrgation District was recently ranked in the Top Ten public utilities in the nation for installed solar capacity. The IID currently has over 98 solar photovoltaic  (PV)systems opertional within the Districts service territory in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys. IID conservation specialist Julie Gray says that number is expected to grow." We are winessing a hugh inrease in the popularity of photovoltaic. In just the first six months of this year, IID has provided more than $500,000 worth of rebates to customers as compared to $1.3 million awarded in the past three years." The Districts rebate program generally covers about 30% of the cost to install a system according to Gray. The IID recommends that anyone thinking about installing a solar PV system should contact the utility early on in the planning process to ensure eligibilty for the rebate and that the system will be able to connect to IID's electric system.
