(Imperial Irrigation District Directors get an update on a solar project)…Representatives from Stirling Energy Systems are going before the IID Board during their informational meeting.

Stirling is proposing to build a solar project on about 6,700 acres of federal land in Imperial County. The company says Stirling has been awarded one of the world’s largest solar-powered electrical generation contracts and the facility it intends to construct would consist of 37,440 solar dishes. The energy generated at the Imperial County facility will be transmitted from an on-site substation to the Imperial Valley Substation, where it will in turn, be sent to San Diego Gas and Electric. Stirling says they will initially employ up to 700 people during construction and will create 350 fulltime positions after the project is built.
