(The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors give new General Manager 60 days to review the Energy Department)….At their last meeting the Imperial Irrigation District Directors agreed to allow the new General Manager, Doctor Brian Brady, 60 to 90 days to review the energy department.

Brady would then make his recommendations to the Board as to how the department should operate and who should run it. Tuesday the Board went into closed session to discuss the process again, at the request of Director Mike Abatti. In public session, the Board took a voice vote to give the GM until June 24 to review the department and make his recommendations. The vote was 3-2, with Directors James Hanks and Abatti voting against the direction. During the meeting Abatti said he did not like it, but he could go along with the majority vote. During a break in the meeting, Abatti said the Board had offered a contract to a chosen candidate for the position, and they should honor that decision. He was speaking about Frank Barbera, who has been linked by some to the failed Hedging fiasco that cost the District millions of dollars. Abatti said the Board had more information available to them than those making the accusations. He said he has seen nothing directly linking Barbera to the Hedging fiasco. Abatti said Tuesday’s action does not rescind the contract offer. Until the Board decides otherwise, the offer remains on the table. Abatti said the Board action only postpones it for just over two months.
