(Restoration of the Salton Sea will affect air quality)….How it will affect air quality is still up in the air.

That was pretty much the conclusion of the environmental attorney hired by the Imperial Irrigation District. Ellen Spellman gave the IID Board a report on air quality issues surrounding the Sea. Spellman’s firm was contracted to study the legalities of the 2003 Quantification Settlement Agreement. Spellman told the Board that restoration will create a receding shoreline, which will result in impact to the local air quality, but how it will affect the air quality is unknown. Spellman also said the IID would be liable for adverse affects to the air quality created by the transfer of water. Previous determinations were that the State would be responsible for mitigation resulting from adverse affects resulting from the water transfer.
