(Imperial Irrigation District approves interconnect)….Tuesday the IID Board of Directors unanimously approved a generator interconnection agreement with Ormat Nevada, Inc., for the first phase of the generator’s North Brawley geothermal facility.

As part of the agreement, the IID will receive wheeling revenues for providing transmission services. The first phase of the project is expected to come online this fall and generate 50 megawatts of clean, renewable energy. Jesse Montano, IID interconnect transmission contracts administrator says as more and more emphasis is being placed on renewables throughout the state, much of California is looking to Imperial Valley as a key resource for renewable energy. He says the IID transmission system is the key to getting these resources to market. IID owns and maintains 1,600 miles of strategically located transmission that can transport these renewables to markets in the north, south, east and west. In this contract, IID will transport these renewables to Southern California Edison in the Northwest. This agreement is the second interconnection request approved between Ormat and the IIS this year.
