(Imperial Irrigation District Board agrees to become Local Entity)……Tuesday the IID Board unanimously approved the new agreed to the new responsibility.

In adopting the resolution, the Board agreed to decide the third party impacts from land fallowing for 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08. The Local Entity was created by the revised fourth amendment to the 2003 water transfer agreement between the Imperial Irrigation District and the San Diego County Water Authority. The Entity mitigates the socioeconomic impacts of fallowing in Imperial County. A final settlement with San Diego provides a total of $50 million in fallowing mitigation funds to be disbursed over the course of the first 15 years of the water transfer agreement. As the new Local Entity, the Board says they will utilize the same protocol established by the reconstituted entity in soliciting, verifying and mitigating claims submitted by those directly or indirectly impacted by land fallowing.
