Cats and dogs from the local animal shelter will be available for adoption this coming Saturday.
Imperial County, California – The Imperial County Animal Shelter will be hosting an Adopt-A-Pet Day this coming Saturday, August 25th at Desert Trails RV Park /Ryerson Hall from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The RV Park is located at 225 Wake Avenue in El Centro. This is an opportunity for local families or individuals who are interested in adopting an animal to stop by and spend some time getting to know the animals and speak with Animal Control staff. Cats, dogs, puppies and kittens from a variety of breeds will be available. There will be a low-cost fee for spay /neuter services for the animals that get adopted. Rabies vaccines will also be made available.

Dr. Stephen Munday, County Health Officer stated, “in seeking the health and welfare of the animals at the Imperial County Animal Shelter, our goal is to have the animals adopted out to individuals and families who will provide a good home for them.” The Public Health Department has seen a positive response from the community with similar events in the past year and that is why the Department is continuing to host these types of activities in the community.

The Department is looking forward to working closely with community members once again to make sure these animals find good animal-loving homes. The animals found at the Imperial County Animal Shelter are from a variety of sources. Some are dropped off at the shelter as puppies when the owners cannot handle a large number of animals at home, others are removed from homes that are not safe or are left by the owners. Currently the Imperial County Animal Shelter is housing around sixty-one animals (45 dogs and 16 cats.) The Animal Shelter, located at 1329 South Sperber Road, is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm in El Centro.
The public is welcomed to stop by during the week during the hours of operation if interested in adopting an animal. If you are interested in volunteering at the Adopt-A-Pet event please contact Jeff Lamoure at 336-8530.
