(Water over-run not as bad as originally thought)….Imperial Irrigation District Water Manager Mike King said this week the anticipated water overage will be much less than predicted during the summer, and he says it could go down even further if the anticipated rain occurs this weekend. King told the IID Board the expected overage is now at 13,699 acre-feet, down from the summer prediction of over 70,000 acre-feet. He said the anticipated over-run was now at a very manageable number. He thanked the growers and his staff for working diligently to bring the numbers down. King said a normal rainfall could take care of the over-run. Also in his report to the Board, King said maintenance on the East Highline Canal will begin at 6:00 am January 6. The Canal outage will last about 3 days to allow crews enough time to clean it out. Biological control personnel will be on hand to move any fish encountered in the canal when the water flow is stopped. |
