(Imperial Irrigation District discusses budget)….The IID Board is expected to adopt a budget for the next year today. The IID operates under a calendar fiscal year. During the special session, the Board will decide on a proposed rate increase on local power bills. It is being suggested power bills be increased by as much as 6%. That would translate to about $70 more on monthly power bills. The Board will also discus a proposal to offset the rate increase by rearranging the Energy Cost Adjustment. IIS staff says Water Rates also need to be raised by as much as $2.00 per acre-foot. The Imperial Irrigation District water rates are among the lowest in the State. A decision on those rates will be discussed following the completion of a cost of service study being conducted. Also in the proposed spending plan is $15 million for consultants. The amount is similar to what was spent this year, and the District says the hiring of special consultants is money well spent for major projects. The budget indicates a $95 million payroll for the District. |
