Holtville, California - After a 40 year absence Hunter Safety returns to Holtville, California. For many years the Holtville Gun Club annually hosted one of the largest hunter safety seminars. Completing this course is a requirement that must be done before a California Hunting license can be purchased.

The rifle club was run by well known individuals with names like Vic Wellong, Jim Hurt, Walter Nilson, Leo and Ralph Samaha.

The Holtville Gun Club silenced the shotguns year’s ago, the club was handed over to the Holtville Athletic Club who uses the facility for community barbecues, and a general headquarters for preparation of the Holtville Rib Cook-off scheduled for January 24th, 2009.

The class is open to anyone and will be provided by volunteers along with the California Fish and Game department. The class fee is $ 5.00 and will be held on August 11th, 13th, 15th, 16th & 18th at 6:00 pm. At the Holtville Athletic Club location is 1550 E. Zenos Road Holtville.

“We’ve been trying to bring the hunter safety classes back to Holtville for a long time we think it will be very beneficial to the community.” “The entire membership of the Holtville Athletic Club fully appreciates the importance of Hunter Safety, therefore the club intends to make a donation in the name of all the participants to Imperial Valley’s Women Haven for every person completing the hunter education course,” stated Rudy Schaffner club organizer.
