(Public Health holds a workshop on animal shelters, but not specifically on the Humane Society issue)…Sources had indicated the issues with the Imperial County Humane Society would be addressed at the public meeting held Tuesday at the Public Health Department.

It turns out it was a workshop and it dealt with ordinances that deal with animal shelters and the treatment of animals. El Centro City Manager Ruben Duran, who attended the workshop, said it was basically on how communities deal with managing animal populations, the statutes and how they deal with communities, community obligations, and what is needed to comply. Representatives from the Humane Society were present, along with representatives from shelters across the county. Duran said specific shelters were never discussed during the workshop. The Humane Society animal facility was closed recently, and animals at the shelter were transferred to other facilities, but nobody will say, officially, why.
