Humane Society not responding

(The local chapter of the Humane Society will remain closed indefinitely)….The Animal Shelter has been closed temporarily. Sources say there is no indication the shelter on Pico Road in El Centro plans to open any time soon. They say the shelter will reopen in the next few weeks. They also say the reason for the closure is administrative. The local Humane Society officials need to clarify the question of how their permit for veterinary services was being used. There apparently was at least one complaint to the Department of Consumer Affairs. Nobody at the El Centro Shelter will return telephone calls. Maria Peinado of the County Public Health Department says the problem at the Humane Society has nothing to do with the treatment of the animals at the shelter. Peinado said the treatment of the animals would be the only thing her department would be concerned with, and that has never been in question.
