(Humane Society temporarily closed)….The Humane Society facility on Pico Road will be closed for the next few weeks. Officials at the local Humane Society are not commenting on the temporary closure. The El Centro Police say it is due to complaints from the State Department of Consumer Affairs. Maria Peinado with the County Public Health Department says no complaints surrounding the care and treatment of animals have been received. Peinado said the issues are administrative, but did not go into any detail. She did say the Health Department expected all regulatory issues to be successfully resolved in the next few weeks. In the meantime, Peinado said Sister Humane Societies in the region have agreed to support the local shelter by transferring the majority of the animals, so that adoptions would not be delayed. Peinado says the remaining few animals at the El Centro shelter are being cared for daily. |
