Holtville to study options

(Holtville wants to study Police department options)….After holding a public meeting and hearing from more residents Monday, the Holtville City Council decided to stop negotiations with the Sheriff’s Department. The City was talking with the County Department to determine if it would be feasible to contract with the Sheriff to provide police services for the city. Public comment has swayed the City Council to reconsider. They agreed Monday to table the negotiations with the County in order to study the options available. One option would be to put the issue to a vote. This would determine if the residents would be willing to pay for more officers a new Police Chief and new Department building. A temporary contract with the Sheriff’s Department is another option. The city currently has a contract for an assistant Sheriff to serve as interim Police Chief.
