(Holtville gets a new interim Police Chief Friday)….The City has contracted with the County Sheriff’s Department since January for an interim Chief.

Sergeant Steve Gutierrez was appointed to the position, filling the void left by the departure of permanent Chief John Meyers. Meyers was fired in December. Gutierrez says he is training Sergeant Rick Watson. He said Watson would be on his own Friday. Gutierrez, a 17-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, will return to the Sheriff Department’s support services. Watson, a 27 year veteran with the Sheriff’s Department, will serve as interim chief for the City of Holtville until this coming January or until the City hires a permanent Chief. The City has placed a 4% utility tax increase on the November Ballot. If approved, the funds would go towards revamping the Cities Police department. That would include the hiring of a permanent Chief.
