Holiday Toy Drive sign-ups Wednesday

(The V O A is gearing up for their Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive)…The first round of sign-ups will be Wednesday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The participant sign-ups will be at Coldwell Banker, 388 W. Aten Road. Don Gorham of Volunteers of America says they expect to provide toys for an estimated 7,000 children in Imperial County this year. La Posta Casino has donated $5,000 for the purchase of toys at the El Centro Wal Mart. Gorham says they will also be purchasing $1,500 new Bikes from Wal Mart. He said the El Centro store is selling the bikes at cost. Another 100 bikes are being refurbished at the Calipatria State Prison. Public toy donations are also being accepted. The Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive is to provide presents to low-income children. To qualify the children must be under the age of 12. To sign-up, parents must provide a picture identification, social security card for all household members, proof of residence and proof of all income sources. Gorham says he expects to announce a second sign-up to be scheduled possibly next week.
