(Law Enforcement will be out in force this holiday weekend)….The California Highway Patrol says their Maximum Enforcement begins at 6:00 Friday evening. Maximum Enforcement is the C H P Holiday mode, in which they call in as many Officers as possible to patrol the roadways. The Highway Patrol says this Memorial Day Weekend they will be especially focused on seatbelt violations. The C H P says over half the deaths reported in the State last year were found to be not wearing seatbelts. Calexico Police say they will be focusing on drunk or impaired drivers. The ‘Avoid the 10 Imperial County’ Coalition will be conducting DUI enforcement patrols all weekend. The Coalition consists of Calexico, Calipatria and Westmorland Police Departments. Motorists found violating traffic laws or appearing to be driving under the influence will be stopped and possibly subjected to a sobriety screening, and possible arrest. The California Office of Traffic Safety provided the grant funds for the special project, is also asking the public to get involved. Call 911 to report a suspected drunk driver. |
