(Public Health issues advice on Bees)….The advice comes in the wake of two bee related deaths within a month.

The County Health department says bees nest in many areas, such as boxes, cans, buckets and other containers. Other nesting areas would be in Lumber piles, Holes and cavities in fences. It is suggested homes be bee-proofed to remove possible nesting sites, inspect outside walls and eaves, seal openings larger than 1/8 inches in walls, around chimneys and plumbing, try to stay away from all honey bee swarms and colonies. If bees are encountered, get away as soon as possible. While running, protect your face and eyes as much as possible. Take shelter in a car or building. Water or thick brush does not provide adequate protection. Teach children to be respectful and cautious around all bees. Don’t stand and swat the bees. Rapid motion makes them sting. If stung, get medical attention if you have trouble breathing, if you are allergic or stung numerous times. Keep the Imperial County Hotline number handy; 336-2252.
