(20 tons of hay goes up in smoke)….County Fire says the blaze is being investigated as possible arson.

Captain Morales said County Crews responded to the fire at around 6:00 Wednesday morning. When they arrived they found fresh tire tracks, but no witnesses. He said it has been determined the fire did not start as a result of instantaneous combustion, and it was not an accident. The burnt haystacks were located just off Derrick Road, North of Interstate 8. Crews were able to knock down the fire rather quickly, but Morales said the hay would smolder on into the afternoon. The damage estimate is $50,000. Nobody was injured. The Captain said the owner of the hay and his employees are monitoring the smoldering, and firefighters are on stand-bye in case of any flare-ups.
