A large haystack just south of the Imperial Valley Mall went up in flames Friday evening. Firefighters from  the El Centro Fire and Imperial County Fire Deaprtments battled the fie that destroyed a large haystack on Dogwood Road just south of the Imperial Irrigation District sub-station that serves the Imperial Valley Mall. Intense heat from the fire threatened the electrical facility for a tme. Firefighters expected to remain on the scene through the night to keep an eye on the situation as the hay burns itself out. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
