Local and state officials attended groundbreaking ceremonies for the Brawley Bypass Project Saturday morning.
The project will reroute Highway 111 traffic past the city of Brawley without going down Main St. The $82,5 millian project is scheduled for completion in late 2010. Members of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors and the Brawley City Council addressed the audience about the importance of the Valleywide cooperation that helped make the project a reality. State Senators Denise Moreno Ducheny and Dennis Hollingsworth spoke of the bi-partisan cooperation in Sacramento that also helped with the projects approval. The Brawley Bypass section of Highway 111 will be named in honor of the late Vicotr V. Veysey who represented the Imperial Valley as an Assemblyman and U.S. Congressman in the 1960's and '70's. |
