(Calexico School Board wraps-up deal for interim Superintendent)….The School Board had named Assistant Superintendent David Groesbeck to replace David Avarez. The action came after Alvarez announced his retirement. At their meeting Thursday night, the School Board said they were awarding Groesbeck a one-year contract worth $157,000. As interim Superintendent, Groesbeck was also awarded $500 for monthly expenses. The Board said the contract was not excessive. They said it was the same amount Alvarez had earned as Superintendent. Also at the meeting, the School Board solidified its previous decision to lay-off 19 teacher-aides in the District. A preliminary decision on the lay-offs had been announced at a special meeting last week.
