(New law could keep Graffiti artists busy for a while)…The legislation signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Wednesday is similar to the current policy in El Centro.

It requires those defacing public and private property to be made to clean it up. The new law allows convicted Graffiti artists to clean up defaced property for up to a year. A major backer of the new legislation was the City of Los Angeles. The City has seen a significant increase in reported incidents of Graffiti. The new law makes it mandatory for a defendant convicted of graffiti vandalism to clean up or repair the property, when feasible. The defendant or minor defendants parents or guardians could be ordered to keep the area clean of graffiti for up to a year.
