(Baja Governor says tunnel closure major hit to drug traffickers)…Baja California Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan applauded the public participation in the discovery of the tunnel in Mexicali. It was an anonymous call Monday to State police that led officers to discover the sophisticated but uncompleted tunnel on Madero Avenue. The location was two blocks from the international border. The 8 suspects arrested connected to the tunnel were from the State of Sinaloa and Guadalajara, Mexico. The Governor said finding the tunnel and stopping its completion loosens the grip of out of state criminals. Federal authorities have joined the investigation to determine who is responsible for the tunnel. Officials say the tunnel had not reached the border when it was discovered. The tunnel was being constructed about five meters below the house in the 100 block of Madero, near “C” Street. The tunnel was well lit, had air conditioning, a ventilation system and a mini rail system to carry the dirt out of the cavern. |
