(Mexicali officials raise gas prices)….The increase is an attempt to slow gas purchases. Last month Mexicali ran low on Diesel fuel supplies. This month officials say regular gas supplies are down. Rodrigo Llantada Avila, a spokesman for the Gas Station Association in Mexicali, says supplies are 20 to 30% below normal and in order to slow the sales until supplies can be brought back up to normal, prices would be increased. The spokesman says the price for supreme, or Magna gas, will increase 3 centavos per liter. The increase for Premium and Diesel will be 7 centavos per liter. The over $4.00 per gallon gas prices in the United States is driving motorists across the border to purchase their fuel. That is being blamed for the dwindling supplies all across the International Border in Mexico. Gas is supplied to Baja California communities from a pipeline from a Pemex plant in Rosarito, on the Pacific Coast. |
