(24-year-old El Centro man shot)……Police say they received the call at 10:27 Tuesday night. Officers responded to the call in the 900 block of Waterman Avenue.

Officers say they found a large group of people standing around the apartment complex. The officers then found the wounded man, Jesus Antonio Mendoza. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds, one to the upper torso and one in his right hip. Officers briefly interviewed Mendoza before he was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center then flown off to U C S D Medical Center in San Diego. His condition is listed as stable. Based on information given by the victim and witnesses at the scene, an alert was issued to all local law enforcement agencies for a dark colored Nissan Xterra. The suspect had been identified as Eddie Campos of Imperial. At around 1:30 in the morning the Xterra was found in Campos’s Imperial driveway on Brushwood. At around the same time, Sheriff’s deputy Damian Martinez was flagged down at the scene of the shooting. He was told the person responsible for the shooting was just leaving the scene in a dark BMW. The Deputy followed the vehicle, and radioed for assistance from El Centro Police. They stopped the BMW at LaBrucherie and Lincoln. Several people, including Campos, were taken into custody. Officers backtracked the BMW and found a .22 caliber rifle at the edge of the road. Sergeant Jeff Mason says evidence and witness testimony link the rifle to the shooting. The 31-year-old Campos was charged with attempted homicide and for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $500,000. Also arrested was 28 year old Angelica Garcia of Imperial, 20 year old Tony De Marco Loureiro of Westmorland and 39 year old Oscar Herrera of El Centro. They were each charged with criminal conspiracy. Their bail was set at $10,000.
