(The County has a new Natural Resources Director)…Tuesday the County Board of Supervisors introduced the new Director to the public.

Andy Horne was named to take the reins of the newly formed position. The Natural Resources Director will work out of the County Executive Officers Department. He will be in charge of putting together the Counties Natural resources Program. The job is temporary, and will be evaluated in six months to determine the benefit of the new position. Chairman of the Board Larry Grogan came up with the idea, saying the County was not doing enough to promote the development of so called Green Energy, such as Geothermal, Solar and other natural sources of power. Grogan also argued the County needed greater presence At State events that had a direct connection to Imperial County, Such as the State Salton Sea restoration commission. Horne’s first task is to attend the workshop scheduled this week by the California Energy Commission. The workshop is to discuss transmission corridors, something the County wants to be a part of. Horne, as a former Imperial Irrigation District Director, is very familiar with the issues of concern to the County. Horne told the Board he would return next meeting with a work plan for the next 6 months and beyond.
