(Raul Rogelio ‘Rollie’ Carrillo passes away)….The 87 year old passed away in his sleep Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

He had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for several years. Rollie Carrillo was a long time businessman in Calexico, owning a small chain of shoe stores. He also had served 18 years on the Calexico City Council, from 1950 through 1968. County Supervisor Victor Carrillo described his father as a great person, a great humanitarian and a great politician. Rollie Carrillo was instrumental in bringing the San Diego State University Campus to Calexico. Rollie Quad was named after him for his efforts. The Supervisor said his father gave him one piece of advice when he entered politics. He told him to be a politician in name only and to always remember he was a public servant first and foremost. Services for Mr.Carrillo are pending.
