Written by Pedro Serrano
Sunday, 22 June 2008
It is illegal to sell, use and possess any type of fireworks in Imperial County. County Fire Chief Fred Nippins says the ban affects the unincorporated areas of Imperial County, the communities of Heber, Niland, Seeley, Ocotillo, Palo Verde, Winterhaven and the Salton City area. The cities of Brawley, Calexico, El Centro, Holtville and Imperial also outlaw pyrotechics. Violators are subject to fines up to $1,000 , up to six months in jail , or both. Nippins suggested that you contact your local fire department for more information. The Imperial Valley will celebrate the 4th of July at Freedom Fest 2008 on the campus of Imperial Valley College. A spectacular fireworks show syncronized to music on KXO FM107.5. Entertainment , food and game booths and static displays will precede the fireworks. Admission to the event is FREE.
