(Congressman stops off in El Centro before heading to the Democratic Convention)….Congressman Bob Filner celebrated his birthday in El Centro Saturday.

At the birthday picnic, the Congressman announced his “Citizen of the Month.” The 51st Congressional District “Citizen of the Month” is Doctor Ramon Rodriguez, Chief of Medicine at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley. Doctor Rodriguez was recognized for his positive impact on local veterans. He was the first VA Doctor to serve Imperial Valley Veterans. Filner said he was grateful for the Doctor’s many years of dedication. Doctor Rodriguez began his career at Letterman Army Hospital treating the wounded from the Vietnam War. He continued his service at the Veterans Hospital in Los Angeles and subsequently became the primary physician at the Naval Air Facility, El Centro. He has served the Valley for the past 32 years. In 2002 he was named Chief of Medicine at PMH.
