Filner Introduces Save Our Border Communities Bill

Congressman Bob Filner recently introduced H.R. 5879, dubbed the Save Our Border Communities Act. The bill would reimburse local police, firefighters and other first responders for services associated with U.S. Ports of Entry.. Filner said, " It is the Fedreral Governments job to ensure that our borders are safe and secure. We cannot force local police departments to bear the cost. It's time Uncle Sam paid the real cost of keeping our nation secure." Filner added that in 2006 Imperial County, California spent $5.5 million for law enforcement and criminal justice services associated with the border.The Calexico Fire Chief estimated that 25% to 30% of the calls received by his department were border related.
