A section of eastbound Interstate 8 near In-Ko-Pah Park Road was closed for over three hours early this morning following a fatal traffic accident. According to the California Highway Patrol , a Nissan Armada driven by Karolina Felber Bartek , 42 , of Tucson, Arizona , was eastbound on Interstate 8 just east of In-Ko-Pah Park Road at approximately 2:00 O'Clock this morning when the vehicle struck two pedestrians who were walking along the side of the highway. One of the pedestrians was fatally injured , the other was airlifted to a San Diego hospital with moderate injuries. Bartek stopped at the scene for a short time and then continued eastbound on Interstate 8 before authorities arrived. Bartek eventually stopped when she crashed again, approximately 5 miles east of the original accident , this time disabling her vehicle. U.S. Border Patrol agents were first on the scene of the second accident and remained with Bartek until CHP officers arrived. Bartek was not injured in either of the accidents. She was ,however,  booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of Felony Driving Under the Influence, Vehicular Manslaughter , Felony Hit and Run and Possession of a Loaded Handgun. The identities of the fatally injured pedestrian and his companion have not been released. Eastbound Interstate 8 was shut down for more than 3 hours as the investigation at the two sites was underway. The investigation is continuing.
