(Farm Bureau names Farmer of the Year)…..The Imperial County Farm Bureau held its Annual Banquet Thursday night.

The highlight of the evening at the Stockman’s Club in Brawley was the announcement of the Fourth Annual recipient of the Jim Kuhn Memorial Farmer of the Year Award. This year’s award went to William Irving Dubois. 92-year-old Bill Dubois began farming in Imperial County in 1946, following a distinguished tenure in the U.S. Navy that included a valiant tour during World War two. He retired from farming in the 1970’s, but continues as a landowner. The 1934 graduate of Central Union High School is currently considered a wealth of information on water issues, and is sought out by local, state and federal officials on the issues. At the Banquet Dubois was presented Proclamations from U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein, State Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny, Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, County Supervisor Wally Leimgruber and Imperial Irrigation District Board President John Pierre Menvielle. Dubois was accompanied at the Banquet by his wife and entire family.
