(Fire displaces El Centro family)…The was reported late Friday morning at a 3-bedroom house on Highway 86, south of El Centro. Fire officials say the home was completely gutted.

The blaze apparently started in the kitchen, but the cause is still under investigation. A mother and her three children were renting the house. They say the homeowner did not have fire insurance. The woman was not at home at the time. Her children, ages 17, 13 and 11, were not injured. The family has been split by the fire. The mother is staying with family in Heber, while the children are staying with friends in El Centro in order to not miss any school.
