CALEXICO, Calif. – Today at 5:45 a.m., CBP Border Patrol agents apprehended two illegal aliens attempting to smuggle 985 pounds of marijuana into the United States from Mexico through the desert east of Calexico.

Agents observed a gold Ford F-150 pickup truck enter the United States illegally from Mexico through the Imperial Sand Dunes, Buttercup Campground. The vehicle approached Interstate 8 and realized that Border Patrol Agents were in the area.  The vehicle then attempted to flee back south into Mexico through the campground, however the vehicle became disabled.  Agents quickly arrested the driver and the passenger of the vehicle.  Subsequently agents discovered a total of 53 bundles of marijuana, valued at $ 787,760.00.  The vehicle, marijuana, and both subjects were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration pending criminal proceedings.
