(Two El Centro Firemen arrested at the Fair)….Imperial County Sheriff’s Lt. George Moreno says the incident happened Wednesday night.

Moreno says at just before 11:00 pm El Centro Fire Captain Raul Ojeda and Firefighter Kevin Beard were taken into custody for allegedly trying to steal an off-road bike. The Lt. says it was reported the two took the 2008 Suzuki 650 off road motorcycle from the Imperial Valley Cycle Center booth underneath the Grandstand. They allegedly pushed the bike about 100 yards east, and were spotted by one of the security guards at the fair. Moreno says the security guard spotted the bike lying in the back of a pick-up, and he immediately called the Sheriff’s Department. Beard and Ojeda were taken into custody. Both were released after posting bail. Moreno said neither suspect would answer any questions surrounding the attempted theft. He said both requested an attorney almost immediately. The Lt. said it is not known why the firemen would want to steal an off-road bike from the fairgrounds. It is reported friends and relatives are trying to get the charges against the two dropped.
